Why I'm traveling over 240 miles for TEDxLansing

1.      Bugsy Rocker traveled 29,403 miles to all 50 states (including Hawaii & Alaska).  He got sponsored by Jeep for the Home Town Invasion Tour, who am I to complain about 247 miles? And, he’s a presenter.  Nuff said.

2.      It’s important to listen and learn from doers, people who follow their passions and don’t just talk, but walk the walk.

 3.      If you’ve ever watched a TED video you’ve been inspired and hopefully learned a thing or two.  Just imagine being there in person.

 4.      John hill may be wearing a custom made sweater vest which is cool in itself.  He may also have the secret sauce to using Linkedin to get jobs, internships, sales and connections galore. The ROI on a Relationship in trying times is priceless.

5.      Remember what Warren Buffet said, “Take my advice, and invest in yourself” Going to TedxLansing is an investment. The people you’ll meet and stories you hear will be time worthy.

 6.   @equalman wrote Socialnomics, was Amazon’s #1 best seller & created the viral video Social Media Revolution.

I only spoke of a few awesome people speaking at the event; @biggbybob started a successful regional coffee chain that has grown to 115 stores. @singhsam94 traveled all over the world to fulfill his dreams and there are a handful of other great presenters I haven’t mentioned which I can’t wait to see. That’s just the half of it, imagine all the creative, interesting people I haven’t mentioned who will be in the audience! Rather than babble about all the great people speaking and attending the event, do yourself a favor and go.

I was fortunate enough to attend TEDxDetroit and hear really driven, smart people speak.  I took notes for all who didn't attend.  My hand only goes so fast so I could not get everything, sorry!

  • (My thoughts) I thought it was interesting certain speakers, especially those touting community building got a louder and more enthusiastic round of applause'.  Why?  It wasn't about making money, not that there's anything wrong with that but he was focused on rebuilding the community.  The audience was unbelievably engaged.

Economic Hurricanes

  • We have taught young people how to be employees, not employers.
    1. How to fix this? Generate economic hurricanes. (Strong words eh?) Hurricane after hurricane after hurricane.   These are people who don't ask for permission.
    2. "In the face of resistance, just do it!"
  • How to create these hurricanes:
    1. People willing to take risk

    5. Stop hating failure! Failure should be celebrated.
  • Transition is scary!
  • Turn Dreamers into doers and ideas into businesses
  • Rather than build businesses hoping people will come to it, talk to people...even better...listen to people!
  • Research the problem before researching the solution
